A Brush With Kindness

Exterior Home Repairs for Low-Income Homeowners

Chemung County Habitat for Humanity is offering a new program to provide exterior home repairs to qualified low-income homeowners. Repairs include, but are not limited to: painting, landscaping, and minor repairs. Generally a 2-3 day project.

How the Program Works

A Brush with Kindness is a partnership that relies on homeowner involvement. Home repairs are led by trained crew leaders and completed by Habitat for Humanity volunteers and the homeowners. If selected for the program, homeowners must be willing to:

  • Be on site and work in various capacities each day volunteers are working on the project
  • Stay in the home for at least 3 years after the repairs are completed
  • Sign a covenant that outlines the partnership agreement
  • Interested homeowners must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proof of ownership and residency in Chemung County
  • Financial need. This program is for low-income households earning less than 80% of area median income. Eligibility guidelines:
Family Size 80% Gross Income Limits
